Ronnie Sloan, president of The Outer Banks Hospital, reported in a Friday, July 8 video that by mid-fall, Outer Banks Family Medicine – Manteo will be fully staffed with three full-time physicians.

A July 5 letter from Lynne Miles, Outer Banks Medical Group Regional Administrator of Operations, was sent to the 2,418 patients announcing the arrival of Dr. David Worthen on July 18 from Honolulu; and Dr. Erin Baker, coming from Ocracoke on Oct. 31, 2022.

Her letter also detailed how patients could get on the waiting list to resume medical care at Outer Banks Family Medicine – Manteo.

Sloan added that Dr. Cara Sumners, already practicing in Manteo office, will be one of three physicians available.

Both Miles and a written statement from The Outer Banks Hospital said, “given the limited number of patients a provider can see in a day/week and the volume of patients we expect to join the waitlist, it will take some time to re-establish care for all impacted patients.”

Sloan also addressed medical care services in Dare’s beach community.

He announced the Dr. Mark Worthen, the father of Dr. David Worthen, will build a new primary care model in Nags Head. Sloan said the practice will ultimately have 3,000 to 5,000 patients. The practice will be located at 4917 S. Croatan Highway in Nags Head.

Dr. Mark Worthen will see patients himself and supervise advanced practice providers.

Details about the primary care model were not provided by ECU Health.

Additionally, Sloan reported active recruiting is on-going for a women’s health care provider and a replacement for Dr. Daniel Terryberry, who left the family medicine practice in Kitty Hawk this year.
