James Madison Cahoon

James Madison Cahoon aka “Snooky,” 63, of Manteo died Friday, November 9 after a long battle with cancer.  He was home and surrounded by family.

James was born June 5, 1955, in Belhaven. He was one of eight siblings and eldest son of the late James M. and Nellie Mae Cahoon.

For over 30 years, he was the owner and operator of Midway Automotive and Towing and later Midway Express. Whether yelling from the sidelines at his grandchildren’s games or the quiet grin that would fall across his face every time one of his girls brought up hunting, he enjoyed being a part of his family’s life and sharing in their interests.

James is survived by his wife, Robin Grimes Cahoon; daughters, Lisa Seidman (Ron), Tina Buckalew (David), Trisha Cahoon (Stevie Green) and Crystal Smith (Jason); grandchildren Bailey Seidman, Whitney Morrisette, Sydney Ballance, William Austin Gray (Hope Ferstermann), Madison Cahoon, Alex Hondros, James Smith and Ashtyn Smith; sisters Dana Seto, Iris Fulk, Gloria Coker, Barbara “Bobby Ann” Coleman (Dale) and Sue Rose (Hank); brothers, Jack “Bug” Cahoon (Ellen) and Charlie “Tippy” Cahoon (Melissa); and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Carl Seto and Steve Coker.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13 at Twiford Colony Chapel. Burial will take place at Manteo Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Monday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
