James (Jim) H. Forrest Sr., 78, of Southern Shores, North Carolina and Melbourne, Florida passed away peacefully on July 1, 2022 as a result of ALS. He was born July 31, 1943 in Winterville, North Carolina, the son of the late Mildred and Herbert Forrest. Jim grew up in Winterville, North Carolina, graduated from Winterville High School, served in the US Army Reserves from 1964 to 1970, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology from East Carolina University. Upon graduation, Jim was hired by Union Oil Company as a sales representative and relocated to Mount Clemens, Michigan, where he met his wife.

Jim loved his family. He leaves behind his loving wife of almost 50 years, Diane.  He is also survived by sons James (Jimmy) H. Forrest Jr. with significant other Jessica Eppard and Andy Forrest with wife Jamie Forrest; his grandchildren Gavin and Avery Forrest who were lights of his life; and his sister Peggy Thomas and husband Cliff along with several nieces and nephews.

Jim and Diane married in 1972 before moving to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to own and operate a small family-friendly motel. After six years of running the motel, Jim began his long-standing real estate career. He fully retired earlier this year from Southern Shores Realty with over 40 years of service in the business. Jim had a rewarding career helping people find just the right property or home! Second generation clients sought him out for his thoroughness, experience, and patience.

Jim served as a volunteer fireman in the 1970s with the Kill Devil Hills Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Rotary International and a Paul Harris Fellow in his earlier years as a Realtor. He was also a member of the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church.

When Jim was not working, you could find him fishing with his sons or friends, helping with or watching all types of his sons’ athletics, hunting, golfing, or enjoying his garden in the backyard.

A celebration of his life will take place later this summer or in the fall at a date to be determined. Jim’s family would like to thank the many medical and office staff in Brevard County as well the Orlando ALS Coordinator for helping with his care.
