Cape Point and Frisco campgrounds opened for the season April 2. Reservations and payments for campsites at Oregon Inlet, Cape Point, Frisco and Ocracoke campgrounds must be made online at recreation.gov.
The Bodie Island Lighthouse will be open for climbing from Wednesday, April 27 through early fall. Tickets are required to climb the Bodie Island Lighthouse. For a link to reservation page, go to nps.gov/caha/planyourvisit/lighthouseclimbs.
A limited climbing season at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse may be possible this summer, but potential dates have not been finalized. A break from restoration project work may allow a limited climbing season.
Educational programs at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site and Wright Brothers National Memorial start Sunday, April 24. Watch for information on park websites.
Cape Hatteras National Seashore’s resource management field summary webpage is updated weekly on Thursdays through the end of the shorebird and sea turtle nesting seasons. On April 7, the field summary showed one American oystercatcher nest, located on the south end of Ocracoke Island.
