Dear Sir:
For over 25 years, Dare County has gathered in January to observe the birthday of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King and to sit down to a fellowship meal. This event has taken place because of the faithfulness of one person, Mrs. Ruth Lewis. She, her husband Clarence Lewis and the committee she gathered have year after year planned the event, asked for food and contributions for the meal and hosted the day.
This year Mrs. Lewis announced at the Dare County Martin Luther King celebration that she is passing the leadership of the celebration to their son, Michael Lewis. The North Dare Ministerial Association wishes to express their appreciation to Mrs. Lewis for her years of faithfulness in keeping Dr. King’s dream alive. We also thank Mr. Clarence Lewis for his faithful work. Each year the Martin Luther King celebration has been one place Dare County gathered to hear Dr. King’s dream and be challenged to make that dream a reality. We are grateful for this couple’s effort toward racial understanding.
Sincerely yours,
Rev. Spottswood Graves
Member, North Dare County Ministerial Association
