For those out birding or just walking along the shore, it’s difficult to miss the bright orange-red bill of the American oystercatcher (Haematopus palliatus). Over the next few months on the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, oystercatcher nests will be protected by refuge staff by posting do not enter signs at the nesting sites.
