This Gig Line is simple and to the point! It’s about thanking the good folks of Dare County/Outer Banks of North Carolina, Virginia and well beyond who respond to my columns by showing your interest in helping our active duty and veterans. I sincerely thank you all!
In last week’s column, I talked about a deposit box now stationed at the Dare County Administrative Building lobby in Manteo where folks could drop their old, outdated and even broken cell phones in that will in turn be sent to a non-profit group whose goal is to provide refurbished or new cell phones to our active duty and veterans (check out their website: https://www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com)
Your response/feedback to me has been positive through means of calls/texts on my cell (252-202-2058) and my email (giglineheroes@aol.com). I know, too, that phones have been taken to deposit and I’ve been asked if tablets could be donated. (Please review their website noted above where you will find detailed info on their process and access typical questions/answers, etc.)
Your interest and comments have meant a lot to me because it demonstrated that you all are reading Gig Line. Thank you, but more importantly, that you care about providing any source of legitimate help for our service men and women.
Also, one fine gentleman emailed me with a question as to “a way to donate used computers to benefit military members.” How nice is that? And what a great idea! I don’t know the answer yet, but I’m working on finding out and I’ll keep you posted in the coming week or so.
Also, the other project that is under consideration for a huge undertaking to honor our veterans (in a very special way) will likely be decided between now and February 27, so please hang in there with me until then!
You are smart, creative people. As veterans and their family members, you may have super ideas for ways to support, show pride in and show love to our men and women who have served our great nation or who currently serve. Please don’t be shy. Call me, email me, text me. I care about you, your service and every way we can show our veterans how extremely special they are, so share your thoughts with me and we’ll work together on making our county and our veterans the envy! How about that? And in turn, hopefully encourage other counties and communities to do the same!
Reminder: Please mark your calendar for Kelly’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 20 in Nags Head. If you are a veteran and you would like to walk beside the section or ride on the trailer in the lead that puts our Armed Forces and military organizations front and center – please plan on it! I will post additional notes as the final plans are made for line up times, locations, etc., so keep reading Gig Line.
Lastly, I love you all, love hearing from you and I hope to see you wherever I can, at Island Pharmacy or when you hear me coming in my Billy’s old red 2002 Toyota Tundra with a dual exhaust! He bought her brand new and she’s not pretty now like she used to be, but by golly, she’s beautiful to me!
Final note: Yesterday afternoon, I was approaching the stop sign at the end of Airport Rd. headed toward town when a vehicle turned into the lane in the opposite direction. I was shocked when I saw a very handsome, bearded man who looked so much like my Billy. I was stunned. My view was only his profile but the coloring of his handsome beard and overall, nearly took my breath. I don’t know who he was, but I cried all the way to Nags Head. He had an incredible likeness to Billy and it shook me up, to be honest. I miss my husband so much. My life has been so blessed because of his character, his influence and his love for all of us not to mention his patriotism.
Until next time folks, be healthy, safe and happy and love more deeply and sweetly than you ever have before. Take care and by all means, stay tuned!
