Columbia Science Olympiad team takes top honors

On February 24 the Columbia Middle School and Columbia Early College High School Science Olympiad team competed against 21 other schools from Eastern North Carolina in 22 events.
The local students placed in 10 of the events.
Aiden Bryant and Eli Nicholson took first place in Rocks and Minerals and Microbes.
Cayman Pope and Landyn Jarvis (9th grade) took first place in Write It Do It.
Maddy VanHorn and Michael Cox took first place in Potions and Poisons.
Maddy VanHorn also took first place in Herpetology by herself!
Andrew Etheridge and Cayman Pope took second place in Disease Detectives.
Aiden Bryant and Mary Scott Jackson took second place in Fast Facts.
Deidra Webb and Mia Martinez took second place in Optics.
Cayman Pope and Landyn Jarvis (9th grade) took second place in Crimebusters.
Zoe Maready and Jeslyn Vo took fifth place in Road Scholar.
Ryan Davenport and Trey Jarvis took sixth place in Road Scholar.
Team coach Paige Krawczyk said, “Our team worked very hard over the past five months preparing for their events, and it showed Saturday. Medals are only awarded to students that place first through sixth on events. Several of our students came very close to placing and are already talking about how they cannot wait to go back next year and get that first place medal!”
