On the first two Saturdays in December, Island Farm will host “Christmas on the North End,” an event focused on holiday traditions in the early days on the Outer Banks.
Costumed interpreters will share how Roanoke Island families celebrated the Christmas holiday in the mid-1800s. The homeplace will be decorated inside and out, while farm interpreters will demonstrate traditional mid-19th century traditions of food, celebration and holiday craft. Kettle corn, Christmas ornament crafting and grapevine wreath-making will be the highlights along with the opportunity to visit and have pictures made with St. Nicholas inside the historic homeplace.
The event takes place between 1 and 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 4 and Saturday, December 11. Admission is $8 for those aged 4 and older; children 0-3 are free. Island Farm is located at 1140 N on Highway 64, just north of Manteo on Roanoke Island.
