Dare County’s Planning Board meets Monday, July 12, 2021 at 6 p.m. to take up two new proposals and one returning after review on June 12.

Kampgrounds of America (KOA) has submitted a preliminary site plan review to install eight travel-trailer slots on the north side of its soundside property at 25094 NC 12 in Rodanthe.

The 5.6 acre, open space site currently has access to a recreational pier and kayak launch. A residential building and two travel trailers on the northeast corner house employees. The housing is on a separate lot.

Shelly OBX Storage, at 6782 Hwy. 64/264 in Manns Harbor, has submitted an amendment to its special use permit to add one building with 3,300 square feet.

The board will also review a preliminary plat for the Roger Hosfelt Subdivision, Lighthouse Court, Hatteras. The proposal for a three-lot subdivision was treated as a sketch plan at the end of the project’s review in June. The Planning Board noted numerous items that needed to be addressed.

The meeting takes place in the Commissioners Meeting Room of the Dare County Administration Building, located at 954 Marshall C. Collins Dr. in Manteo.

At the board’s June 14 meeting, the Dare County 2021 Land Use Plan was reviewed for final additions and corrections. Once changes were made, the plan was sent to North Carolina’s Division of Coastal Management for review.

The plan was developed by the planning department staff. “There will be changes based on state comments,” warned planning director Donna Creef.

The opening page of the document clearly defines the plan’s purpose. “The Dare County Land Use Plan (LUP), although required by the State, is not an ordinance but is a policy document that is used by the Dare County Board of Commissioners, Dare County Planning Board and the Dare County Planning Department to guide development in unincorporated Dare County.”
