The Nags Head Board of Commissioners was notified Wednesday, May 19 that Michael C. Silverman has withdrawn from his appointment as the municipality’s town manager, according to a press release. Silverman was to begin in that role July 1.
“We are deeply disappointed by this turn of events,” said Nags Head Mayor Ben Cahoon. “However, once Interim Town Manager Greg Sparks’ term ends May 31, Deputy Town Manager Andy Garman will serve as our interim town manager.”
The text of the email Nags Head officials received from Silverman was: “Upon further reflection I will not be coming to the Town of Nags Head to serve as the Town Manager. I believe that I am not a good fit for your community. I enjoyed having the opportunity to meet everyone during the interview process and appreciate your dedication to your community. Thank you for your time.”
Silverman, the city manager of Pascagoula, Miss. was appointed to the position by Nags Head’s Board of Commissioners at their May 5, 2021 meeting after a search process assisted by Developmental Associates of Chapel Hill.
WLOX reported Wednesday that Silverman will remain in his position in Pascagoula and a video was posted to that city’s Facebook page:
