Jane Cohoon Rhodes, 84, longtime resident of Forest Road in Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away on Friday, Aug. 3 at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Kill Devil Hills. Jane graduated from Columbia High School in 1952, where she excelled in basketball and made many lifelong friends with her outgoing personality. Her senior quote of “Happy go lucky, fancy free, nothing ever bothers me” sums up the way she approached her life; she was always positive and chose to see the best in everyone. She was retired from the Physical Therapy Department of Chesapeake General Hospital. She attended Centerville Baptist Church for many years and was still a member of Gum Neck Freewill Baptist church in her home town.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Jeff Rhodes (Lisa); daughter, Reverend Gina Miller (Bruce); grandchildren Jordan Rhodes, Carly Miller, and Matthew Miller (Chloe); sister, Grace Combs; sister-in-law, Nanette Cohoon, along with many nieces and nephews that she loved as her own.
Miss Jane will be remembered as a strong, independent woman who loved to laugh and as someone that never met a stranger. She was true to her faith and had an unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. The family would like to offer sincere gratitude to the many caregivers that treated Jane with respect and kindness during her struggle with dementia.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Burial will follow at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends with a reception at the Funeral Home following the graveside service.
