Edna Jane Wilkin

Edna Jane Wilkin, 91, of Suffolk, Virginia, died Aug. 1, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Norfolk, the only daughter of Bessie Lee (Belvin) and Gilbert Washington Carico. After graduating from Maury High School in 1945, she married the love of her life, Richard Lee Wilkin, Sr. who predeceased her in 1972.
After her husband graduated from William and Mary College, Norfolk, Edna began her working career at the Norfolk Health Department. She later worked at the Norfolk Naval Supply Center and finished her career working for the Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Norfolk, retiring in 1987. She then spent many years volunteering/working at Tidewater Adventist Academy in Chesapeake, as a teacher’s aide helping early elementary students gain a strong foundation for their academic career.
She is survived by her daughter, Joy Jackson of Suffolk; son, Richard Wilkin, Jr. of Suffolk; grandchildren, Rebecca Tucker of Suffolk, Christopher Jackson of Raleigh, Richard Wilkin III of China, and Romeka Karam of Sparks, Nevada; five great-grandchildren, Victoria Tucker of Suffolk, Vivianne Tucker of Suffolk, Roisang Wilkin of China, Richard Wilkin IV of China, and Elijah Karam of Sparks, Virginia.
Mrs. Wilkin was predeceased by her 4-year-old daughter, Bonnie Jane.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 10, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk.
