Dare County Parks and Recreation is gearing up for a summer season full of activities at each of their three locations (Manteo, Kill Devil Hills, Buxton) throughout the county. Registration for camps and classes is open and all class descriptions and locations can be found online at https://www.darenc.com/departments/parks-recreation.

This summer Dare County will offer a variety of day camps and classes including gardening, etiquette, cooking, art, tennis, gymnastics, soccer, basketball, flag football, as well as badminton, kickball and volleyball.

The popular fishing camp is available for boys and girls ages 10 to 12 and runs August 9-13 from 9 a.m. to noon. According to the course description, “Camp includes entry into the Annual Amanda Scarborough Fishing tournament held on Friday August 13th. Campers will learn about types of bait, how to bait a hook, and of course how to tell a fishing story. We will meet at a different pier each day.” Camp fee is $75.

The Fessenden Center at Hatteras Island offers the unique Coastal Maritime Camp. This small camp (limited to 10 participants each) is designed to “inspire a sense of appreciation and respect for the natural beauty of Hatteras Island.” Camp includes fun activities such as cast netting and kayaking. Two co-ed sessions are offered for students age six to nine (June 21-24; August 9-12) from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and one session is offered for students age 10 to 12 (June 21-24) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Camp fee is $40.
