Read Across America Week (March 1-5) was a huge success at Tyrrell Elementary School.
The Reading Committee organized the week’s events and secured volunteers to read to students daily. TES was able to secure two authors to read to the students as well.
Fifth grade ELA/social studies teacher Glenna Basnight organized a book talk for her students with published author Anthony Mercer from Creswell. TES Assistant Principal Joyeria Brothers organized a book reading for K-2 students with published author Reba Reid Turner (pictured), who is originally from Elizabeth City. She read her children’s book Brother Bud’s Garden via Google Meet to the students.
“TES would like to thank all the volunteers who read to our students during Read Across America week! Without your efforts, the week would not have been a success,” stated a TES press release. “We appreciate you investing in our students, in our school and in our district.”
