The Currituck Planning Board approved a text amendment last week to allow Corolla Fire and Rescue to construct a training facility on county-owned land currently designated as “open space.” The proposed facility will be located adjacent to the existing Pine Island Fire Station at 470 Ocean Trail.
The proposed training facility will include six recycled storage containers. The containers will allow fire fighters to simulate artificial smoke and darkness. The board approved the request.
The board also passed a motion to approve a text amendment to prohibit on-site wastewater systems in utility and drainage maintenance access easements on individual lots. The amendment also clarifies language that those easements must be dedicated to the county.
