Three Corolla beach access walkovers – those located at Barracuda, Perch and Sailfish streets – are temporarily closed due to construction, according to a press release from Currituck County.
The three walkovers are in the process of being completely replaced, with construction scheduled to be completed by Memorial Day.
“This represents the first phase of a long-term project by Currituck County to replace 13 aging beach walkovers in Corolla,” stated the release. “These walkovers provide a safe avenue for pedestrians walking to the beach.”
The release also stated that all construction work will be performed outside of the traditional tourist season of Memorial Day to Labor Day to minimize the impact on beach visitors.
The project’s next phase is scheduled to begin in October, with the planned replacement of walkovers at Coral, Dolphin and Mackerel streets.
