Most people know the bobcat’s (Lynx rufus) name originated from the fact it has a short (bobbed) tail of approximately 5″. The bobcat shown here on Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge is a good example of how the fur is colored and patterned to create great camouflage.

Their diet consists of a wide variety of prey, including rabbits, mice, squirrels, snakes, birds and even deer, according to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

They are most active during the night and sunrise and sunset.
