NCDOT has announced that NC 12 between the Marc Basnight Bridge over Oregon Inlet and Rodanthe on Hatteras Island will reopen to motorists at 5 p.m. Sunday. NCDOT expects ocean overwash issues will return with Sunday night’s high tide around 11 p.m.

Standing water and sand remain on the road at several locations, so motorists are advised to drive with extreme caution.

NCDOT crews will evaluate the situation at high tide and another closure may be necessary for public safety at that time.
