Dare County Arts Council invites the public to participate in The Great Art Heist, a benefit art auction that will open on Friday, October 2.

Showcasing over 100 pieces from local and regional artists, The Great Art Heist will serve as Dare County Arts Council’s annual fundraising event and give auction participants the opportunity to support the arts while boasting their best bids.

“The Dare County Arts Council is vital to our community,” said Bea Basnight and Gail Midgett, The Great Art Heist event chairs. “The programs touch so many people, and the opportunities the Arts Council provides for our veterans, our artists and our schools is tremendous. Please support our mission to enrich the lives of our students and community by bidding often and high in The Great Art Heist silent auction!”

Bidding will start at noon on October 2 at Dare County Arts Council’s Gallery in downtown Manteo as well as online at DareArts.org/artauction.

Private viewings of The Great Art Heist will be available for art collectors and local businesses throughout October. To schedule a private viewing, email Dare County Arts Council’s executive director Chris Sawin at dareartsinfo@gmail.com.

“We are so fortunate that Dare County artists have come together to support us in this crazy, challenging year,” said Sawin. “Since our traditional fundraising gala is just not possible in 2020, we are inviting everyone to steal the deals at The Great Art Heist auction.”

The auction will be open for bidding until October 30 at 8 p.m.

The Great Art Heist is presented by TowneBank, the lead sponsor of the Dare Digital Arts program which emerged this spring as a way to celebrate and support the arts through initiatives that are safe, meaningful and innovative.

“TowneBank is honored to be the presenting sponsor for The Great Art Heist in support of the Dare County Arts Council,” said Taylor Sugg, TowneBank Northeast North Carolina president. “This event is a great way to showcase local and regional artists while raising funds for DCAC at the same time.
