Worker dies on the job building Rodanthe bridge

On Monday around 12:45 p.m., a worker on the south end of the new Rodanthe bridge project died.
The death is under investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupation Safety and Health Administration, which has six months to conclude the investigation. According to Major Jeff Deringer at the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, the man had been injured on a crane.
Flatiron Constructors Inc., Broomfield, Colo., is the contractor on the $145.33 million bridge project, expected to be completed by Fall 2021.
The worker was pronounced dead at the site.
Responding to the scene were Chicamacomico Banks Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, Dare County Emergency Medical Services and a Dare County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
