The Manteo Rotary Club’s fundraising event Inshore Slam Fishing Tournament and its sponsors provide the club’s financial support for scholarships, local grants for the community and international projects.

Club members have announced eleven scholarships for this year. Eight will go to Manteo High School 2020 graduates and three current college students will receive continuing scholarship support.

This year’s recipients included:

The Manteo Rotary Club Percy W. and Elizabeth G. Meekins Scholarship: $2,500 to Adam Reed, who is attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kellogg Cuthrell Manteo Rotary Scholarship: $1,500 to Alyse Mary Stewart, who is attending the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Arts.

Johns Brothers Security Scholarship presented by Manteo Rotary: $2,000 to Ayanna Selby, who is attending the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

The club recognized Inshore Slam Fishing Tournament gold sponsor Gregory Poole Marine Power with a $1,500 scholarship to Isabella Bartell, who is attending the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

The $1,500 Manteo Marine Scholarship presented by Manteo Rotary went to Karynna Culpepper, who is attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

The $1,500 Premiere Coastal Contracting Scholarship presented by Manteo Rotary went to Jacob Brown, who plans to attend North Carolina State University.

The $1,500 Midgett Insurance Agency Scholarship presented by Manteo Rotary went to Lara Cate Wright, who is attending North Carolina State University.

Sophia Spinella received the $1,000 Mossy Oak Properties NC Land and Farms Scholarship presented by Manteo Rotary.  She plans to attend North Carolina State University.

Andrew J. Mallory, who plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will receive $1,000 Beach Medical Care Scholarship. He attended College of The Albemarle last year and this is an installment on his $4,000 Inshore Slam Tournament scholarship.

he Manteo Rotary scholarship committee headed by Sandy Martin provides the selection process and administrative support for the Jeanette U. McOwen Memorial Scholarship.   This Outer Banks Community Foundation Fund was founded by William and Monica McOwen. 2019 Manteo High School graduate Holly Peele will receive continuing support in her studies at Appalachian State University from the Jeanette U. McOwen Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,500.

2019 Manteo High School graduate Melissa R. Heath, who attends Campbell University, will receive the $1,000 Scarborough Boatworks Scholarship to continue her studies.

In addition to scholarships granted to this year, club grants and projects included the Nags Head Elementary School Global Read Aloud project, OBX Alzheimer’s Walk, Outer Banks Community Foundation Manteo Rotary Scholarship Endowment Fund, Coins for Alzheimer’s Research, Hurricane Dorian Relief, Roanoke Island Food Pantry, Roanoke Island Women’s Club Thanksgiving Project, Candy Bomber Support, Polio Plus, Australian Wildfire Fund, Dare County Arts Council, College of The Albemarle Study Abroad Program and others.

Manteo Rotary funds scholarships and grants with proceeds from the annual Inshore Slam Fishing Tournament. This year’s tournament registration is set for Friday, October 2 with fishing on Saturday, October 3.
