January 18, 1983 - May 27, 2018  

Clay Charlie Cahoon, 35 years of age, went to be with Our Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at his family’s home in Swan Quarter, North Carolina. 

Clay was born on January 18, 1983, the middle of three sons of Chester and Debbie Daw Cahoon all of Swan Quarter. Clay was inseparable from his brothers, Chad and Dion, and the three were lovingly referred to by family and friends as the “Cahoonas.” The three were rarely seen alone but often in pairs or a trio from childhood into adulthood. 

Clay graduated from Mattamuskeet High School and he received accreditation for welding at Beaufort County Community College. Clay most enjoyed his time working for the North Carolina Forestry Service but also showed expertise in commercial fishing, carpentry and farming. He was currently employed as a welder at Swain Welding & Repairs. 

Clay leaves behind a son, James Lee Cahoon, age 6, and James’ mother, Hilary Hopkins; his mother and father, Chester and Debbie Cahoon of Swan Quarter; two brothers, Chad Marcel Cahoon and Dion James Cahoon; his paternal grandmother, Patricia Brinn Cahoon, all of Swan Quarter; and a dearly loved nephew and niece, Bentleigh Haggen Cahoon and Isabella Grace Cahoon. In addition, Clay leaves behind many close aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that will miss Clay being a part of their daily lives. 

Clay was a loving and loyal friend and never met a stranger. He was always there to give a helping hand and was considered a “jack of all trades.” Clay will be greatly missed by his mother, father and brothers, who he spent a great deal of time with and cared for daily. 

A visitation will be held, Wednesday, May 30 at Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held at Swan Quarter Christian Church where Clay attended regularly on Thursday, May 31 at 4 p.m. 

Services will be officiated by Raphael Farrow with special music by Danny Simpson. A graveside service will follow if weather permits at Soule Cemetery. 

Donations will be accepted in lieu of flowers by Swan Quarter Christian Church.
