Shirley Lutz of Nags Head Cove recently watched her century plant bloom. The “once in a lifetime” bloom will not last long; Lutz encourages those wishing to see her plant to stop by. She even has a sign in her yard for visitors to know where to park.

“People have come from Colorado, Ohio, New Jersey . . . people on bicycles and walking . . . I come out and tell everyone about it,” Lutz said.

Her century plant is located at the corner of S. Pamlico Way and S. Cobia Way in Old Nags Head Cove.

Last month, Lutz said the plant seemed to grow to its 20-ft. height almost overnight.
