Sentara closing Manteo location in August

Five months after closing its clinic and ambulatory services in Kitty Hawk, Sentara Healthcare says it is also shutting down its family medical practice in Manteo.
The last day of operations for Sentara Family Medicine Physicians will be Aug. 3. The lack of other Sentara services on the Outer Banks triggered the decision, company officials said.
“We believe patients are best served with support of a comprehensive system of healthcare services in their community where they can seamlessly transition across services as needed,” Liz Vandendriessche, Sentara’s brand engagement advisor, said in an email. “Patients at Sentara Family Medicine Physicians in Manteo are more than 1.5 hours from the nearest Sentara services. For that reason, we have made the difficult decision to close the Sentara Family Medicine Physicians practice located in Manteo.”
Sentara Kitty Hawk had provided a range of services, including urgent care, family medicine, orthopedics, OBGYN specialists, surgery, therapy and laboratory services.
After the closure of the Kitty Hawk and Manteo locations, Sentara’s cardiology specialist practice is the healthcare’s only office on the Outer Banks.
Sentara said it will work with providers on the Outer Banks to smooth the transition for patients impacted by the closure.
News of the closure comes days after the Kitty Hawk Town Council approved a new urgent care center to be operated by Outer Banks Hospital.
