A Dare County Sheriff’s Office deputy is now stationed at the Stumpy Point Water Plant and checking identification of those who enter the mainland community.
“We’re going to see what’s coming in there,” said Dare Sheriff Doug Doughtie.
Some Stumpy Pointers have said that the village on Dare’s mainland has filled up since entry to Dare was denied to visitors and non-resident property owners because of COVID-19.
Checkpoints are located in Manns Harbor at White’s and at Wright Memorial Bridge in Kitty Hawk. The Manns Harbor checkpoint placement leaves Dare County villages of Stumpy Point and East Lake open, along with the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge and the Dare County Bombing Range used by the U.S. Navy and Air Force.
