The Outer Banks Relief Foundation was awarded a $10,000 Critical Community Needs Grant from Dominion Energy to be used for the foundation’s unmet needs. That means when a local family is facing a debilitating disease, illness, accident or other tragedy, the Relief Foundation will be able to help keep a household stable – with housing and food support – for longer periods of time.
“This critical needs grant from Dominion Energy will allow us to say yes when local families come back a second time for assistance with mortgage payments or other household expenses. Medical crises are unpredictable by nature. A few months of assistance may not be enough to keep a roof over a family’s head or food on the table,” says Patty McKenna, Relief Foundation executive director. During the last few months, three families have come back for additional assistance when their medical crises persisted and compromised their ability to work as usual.
