Village Realty sponsored an event on Feb. 20 to celebrate Bill Gallagher, an instructor with Superior School of Real Estate in North Carolina. Gallagher recently announced his retirement after teaching for 36 years. His students and the real estate community came out to Steamers Restaurant in Southern Shores to show their gratitude and appreciation to Gallagher.

“Everyone that has been a licensed real estate agent for more than five years knows him in this state,” Chandler Spawr said. Spawr, the broker/owner of Coastal Property Partners, has taken Gallagher’s classes ever since he became licensed in 2000.

Gallagher travels from Charlotte to teach in Raleigh, Wilmington, Greenville, the Outer Banks and elsewhere. His fun approach to teaching has led to a wait list of Realtors wanting to take his class. “Everybody who knows [Gallagher] waits for him to come down here to take his class,” Sara Kristof said. Kristof, the director of business development with Village Realty, helped to plan and execute the event.

Gallagher has been coming to the Outer Banks to teach for about 26 years. “Sheryl Kilgor hired me in 1994 to teach, and I’ve been coming here ever since,” Gallagher said. “Everybody just loves the island; that’s why I really want the best for everybody here,” he added.

Through his class presentations on some not-so-fun topics, Gallagher has managed to entertain his students and keep them engaged so the learning process is something they can look forward to. “He’s always the guy we all pick because he’s always made it fun,” said Matt Myatt, broker/owner of Keller Williams Outer Banks.

Prior to the event, Village Realty sent out sentimental message about Gallagher: “As many of you may know, the legendary Bill Gallagher is teaching his last CE classes on the Outer Banks this week. His wide range of real estate knowledge and ability to make professional education a little more enjoyable will be missed by many agents across the beach.”

Gallagher said his favorite part of his 36-year instructional career was teaching new concepts. “See, a lot of brokers already know a lot of things, but teaching something new is always good to help business,” Gallagher said.

Kristof said she usually organizes events like this one for the Realtors each month to show gratitude. “It’s a goodwill thing,” she started, “we don’t talk a whole lot about business, this is a very casual thing.”
