U.S. Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet received a call Monday morning, February 3 from a mariner aboard an 80 ft trawler with five people on board. The vessel was reported to be located approximately 12 nautical miles north of the sea buoy.

The caller informed the Coast Guard that “his friend began suffering symptoms related to a serious infection in his arm after incurring a gruesome injury.”

“We deployed a crew to meet with the vessel and safely transfer him to our boat while also coordinating to have EMS available at our unit once we arrived,” stated a post from Station Oregon Inlet. “The patient was brought to the station and received proper medical attention while being transported to our local hospital.”
