Well folks, if you’ve been in this world a good while, attended church services where those glorious old timey hymns are played and sung or you’re a fan of country music, you may have heard Alan Jackson and many other artists sing “There Is Power In The Blood.”

The bottom line is this . . . there is wonderful power in the blood and I’m not only referring from the perspective of someone who tries to live for the Lord, but as a person who hopes through this Gig Line especially, to encourage you, your family members, friends and co-workers to please donate your blood at the Red Cross Blood Drive this coming Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Holy Redeemer By the Sea Catholic Church, 301 W. Kitty Hawk Rd., Kitty Hawk, NC 27949 between the hours of 12 noon – 6 p.m.

According to several American Red Cross representatives I reached out to, a donor would have to be 16 years of age with parent consent as well as other reasonable specific requirements in order to be eligible to donate their blood, but just imagine what good you and your 16 year or older children could do toward saving lives across our nation. Without blood, we cannot survive and in many cases without each other, we can’t either.

Blood when needed is lifesaving. It could very possibly make the difference in whether a Dad or Mom or spouse or child lives another day and therefore extremely valuable to all who need it. Imagine for a minute that your blood donation contributed to saving the life of a baby or a veteran or a police officer or a fireman or EMS personnel or a Pastor or a Priest . . . just imagine the role you could play in their care and recovery . . . WOW!

For those who want to help make a difference, but cannot donate blood themselves, you can also contact the American Red Cross to determine other ways of helping in the effort whether by volunteering at the Red Cross Centers, at the blood drive events, screening walk ins, etc., etc. or you can donate money if you wish, but again, if you are able to visit the blood donation event this coming Wednesday, please take the time to do it. The staff will welcome you, screen you and assist you in donating that beautiful means of saving lives.

The time involved in donating blood is minimal when you consider the long-lasting effect of the good it does. Minutes of your day could possibly add years to another person’s life. Please . . . just think about it, okay?

We are Americans and we are awesome! We have the ability to donate our time to make this world and our country even better than it is and to hold onto the traditions that make us stand out like a beautiful blooming red rose in a patch of thorns . . . like an American Bald Eagle soaring over troubled and turbulent waters . . . we rock!

And pray for our nation and our leaders for the courage, dignity and conscience to do the right thing for all our sake.
