New Year’s Eve in the New World
Published 3:07 pm Tuesday, December 31, 2019
The Town of Manteo will ring in the new year and a new decade with music, activities and fireworks. This is the third straight year the town will hold a New Year’s Eve party at the waterfront. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and culminate with a fireworks display at midnight as the calendar turns the page to 2020.
Tod Clissold, a local restaurant owner, had the idea for the celebration after visiting a small Mexican beach town that holds a similar celebration. He was the driving force behind securing funds, participation and Town of Manteo support. The first year got off to a slow start as one of the coldest December 31 in recent memory kept crowds down, but last year, with milder weather, the event drew thousands to the Manteo waterfront. Clissold said this year the weather promises to be nearly perfect on New Year’s Eve.
Early in the evening, the event features family friendly activities, food trucks, music by DJ Mixin’ Mike and a Children’s Ball Drop from the Historic Dare County Courthouse at 8 p.m. As the night moves on, there will be music from Formula and Urban Soil preforming “Dancing Through The Decades.” At midnight, fireworks and confetti will fill the sky over Roanoke Sound as revelers bid farewell to the old year and welcome in the new year.
New Year’s Eve in the New World takes place on the Manteo waterfront from 5 p.m. until midnight on December 31. A schedule of events can be viewed at the Town of Manteo website event page.
