Paul Mitchell Edwards, 69, of Creswell died November 28, 2019 at his sister’s residence in Roper surrounded by family.

Born March 7, 1950 in Washington County, he was the son of Mitchell E. Edwards, who survives, and the late Myrtle Roberson Edwards and was preceded in death by sister Bertha Mae Edwards. Paul was raised on his family farm in Creswell where he lived until joining the Army National Guard. Following his military service, he returned to Creswell, started his family and continued farming. He became an ordained minister and served as pastor in several churches, but always considered Cherry Church of God his home. He later became a correctional officer for the NC Department of Corrections, from which he retired in 2015.

Survivors include father Mitchell E. Edwards of Creswell; daughters Paula E. Edwards of Vancouver, Washington, Kim Cannon and husband Steven of Oak City, Mandy Pendleton and husband Eddie of Scotland Neck; stepdaughters Justina Swain and Brandy Clark, both of Creswell; companion Nora Spruill and her son Adam of Elizabeth City; sisters Iris Berry of Plymouth and Rosa Harris of Roper; brothers Kelly Edwards and wife Judy of Creswell and Les Edwards and wife Sharon of Roper; adopted brother Henry Spruill and wife Peggy; grandchildren Landon, Nicholas, Parker, Kyle, Hunter, Emma Rae, Haden and Cooper.

Memorial service was held December 1 at Cherry Church of God, Creswell with David Phelps officiating.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cherry Church of God or Mid-County Ruritans.
