Are you interested in learning more about local birds? Unsure how to tell a wood thrush from a meadow lark? Do you enjoy watching waterfowl migrate in the fall? On Saturday, November 9, Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge will hold a Bird Identification Workshop designed to help beginners and intermediate birders improve their birding skills and experiences while enjoying the company of other bird enthusiasts.

Special guest birder Amy Thompson, director of the Hatteras Island Ocean Center, will cover identification techniques using field marks and calls while offering a special focus on the bird species that you can expect to see at Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge.

The workshop will begin indoors, followed by a hands-on portion outside, from 9 a.m. until noon at Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge Maintenance Depot, 600 Refuge Road in Pantego. Dress appropriately for the weather. The workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is required as class size is limited.
