William David Hamm

William David Hamm died October 6, 2019 in Elizabeth City. He resided with his sister Deborah Gibson-Midgett in their Grandy home. David was the father of six children and eight grandchildren. David also fought for our country and earned the right to call himself one of the great veterans of the Vietnam war.
David is survived by sisters Deborah Gibson-Midgett of Grandy and Jane Reed of Decatur, Ala.; and brother Jimmie Heisler of Decatur. Both David’s mother and father are deceased.
He loved to write music and play his guitar. David especially loved listening to gospel music and being surrounded by family and friends. His Vietnam motto was believe in God and remember – to really live you must nearly die.
Family and friends are invited to join the family at David’s funeral October 10 at 11 a.m. at Poplar Branch Baptist Church, 709 Poplar Branch Road in Grandy.
David will be laid to rest privately at Albert G. Horton Jr. Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Va.
