Annual Kill Devil Hills historic home tour to take place Friday
Published 6:18 am Friday, October 4, 2019
The Historic Landmarks Commission of Kill Devil Hills met Tuesday morning, October 1 to discuss the upcoming historic home tour. This free tour will take place Friday, October 4 from 2-5 p.m.
Cameron Ray, assistant planning director, introduced the agenda for the self-guided tour on Friday. Prior to tour departure, the HLC will host a reception on the lawn in front of KDH Town Hall at 1:30 p.m. The reception is open to the public. The ceremony will include food and drinks as well as guide books for each home.
Ray said there will be eight homes participating in this year’s tour. The board increased the limit on homes from seven to eight due to a high volume of interest.
Ray relayed feedback from last year’s tour: guests wanted to know who the owners of the home were while they walked through the historic landmarks. To fix this issue, Ray said they will make name tags for each host in order to identify the homeowners.
Chair Sandie Markland suggested before departing for the tour from the reception, groups should be split up alphabetically. This will help alleviate the issue of having too many guests in one home at a time. All were in favor. Markland made a motion to accept the plans for the 2019 Historic Homes Tour and it was unanimously approved by the board.
All members of the HLC were present except Christopher Stoessner and Mary Simpson.
