The 8^th Annual Surfalorus Film Festival hit the coast of North Carolina this past weekend, Sept. 19 to Sept. 21. The festival was sponsored by the Dare County Arts Council and the Wilmington-based Cucalorus Festival.

Opening night of Surfalorus was held at Dowdy Park in Nags Head. A series of family-friendly shorts led into live music by SOULOne. Local artists and vendors came to sell their hand-crafted goods during the event.

Friday, Sept. 20 consisted of eight short films and a surf craft exhibit that included longboards, shortboards, bodyboards and surf mats. That event was located at the Dare County Arts Council.

The final day of the festival took place at both the R/C Kill Devil Hills Movies 10 and the Outer Banks Brewing Station. At the theatre, “And Two If By Sea” was shown. This special feature was filmed by Justin Purser and narrated by Daniel Tosh of the TV series “Tosh.0.”

The Surfalorus finale included three film screenings, the last by Outer Banks local Logan Marshall. Marshall graduated from Manteo High School in January and spent the rest of this year travelling and filming in Hawaii and Puerto Rico. His short film “Dimensions” was his third short film for Surfalorus. “I had won a photo contest with this festival and they asked if I wanted to make a surf video,” Marshall said. “I was like sure, why not?” His film documented the daily life of a surfer and how out of this world their abilities are.

After the film, local fire dancer Panda Daniels performed for the crowd and Outer Banks band Cor De Lux closed out the night with live music.
