Ernest “Ray” Ballance Jr., 54, of Hatteras, died September 20, 2019 with loving family by his side.

Ray was a lifelong resident of Hatteras village and a lifelong commercial fisherman. He was especially known for his passion for clamming.

He was preceded in death by father Ernest Ray Ballance Sr. Survivors include mother Cora Ballance of Hatteras; sister Mary Sue Gray and husband Bryan of Avon; uncle and aunt, Eris and Gilda Waterfield of Buxton, as well as a nephew, great-nephew, niece, many cousins and friends.

A memorial celebration will be held at 2 p.m. on September 26 at the Hatteras Assembly of God Church. The service will be officiated by Pastor Durwood Willis and Rev. Bryan Gray.
