Where you see one, you’ll usually find more nearby. White ibis are social, colonial birds. They may been seen at Alligator River (shown) and Pea Island Refuges as well as on lawns parks, fields and other national wildlife refuges across the region.
The diet of the white ibis ranges from crabs, crayfish and worms to fish, frogs, lizards, snails and more. For safety and sleep, the white ibis takes refuge in trees.
