Governor Roy Cooper today, Monday, August 5, ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff effective immediately in honor of the victims of the tragedies in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio that occurred over the weekend. The flag lowering is also in tribute to US Army Private First Class Brandon Jay Kreischer and Specialist Michael Isaiah Nance, both members of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg.

 

Pfc. Kreischer and Spc. Nance died Monday, July 29 while in combat in southern Afghanistan. An update will be issued upon the release of the internment dates of both US soldiers.

 

Flags are to remain at half-staff at state facilities until further notice.

 

As a sign of respect, individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are welcome to fly the flag at half-staff for the same duration of time.
