Year two of the Tyrrell County schools’ “Doggie Paddlers” water safety program will send kindergartners to the Eastern 4-H Center at Bulls Bay for swimming lessons, Dr. Will Hoffman, superintendent, has announced.
Students will learn beginner swimming techniques, water safety, personal survival skills, and basic aquatic emergency procedure.
The classes will also provide students with positive experiences in the water, creating confidence and eliminating water anxiety.
“This program is made possible by the generous support of Vidant Health and the Tyrrell County Board of Education along with our partner, 4-H, “Dr. Hoffman stated. “This program would not be possible without the vision and leadership of our kindergarten teachers and lead swimming teacher Brooke Jones.”
With funding already in place for this year, a grant was submitted to Vidant Health in late March to fund the 2019 swimming program, the superintendent said.
