Dozens of puppy drum were all around Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head on Monday. Pier volunteer Anthony Imperiale, of Nags Head, holds up a nice slot drum he caught and kept for dinner.
Surf casters had their fun, too, catching and releasing plenty of puppies. Each angler can only keep one a day and the fish must be inside the slot limit of 18 to 27 inches to be legal.
At one point, there were 20 anglers on the beach and another handful on the pier.
“Most fishermen had on waders but a couple were barefoot in blue jeans or shorts because the bite was so good! The ocean temperature was 41 degrees,” noted a news release from Jennette’s Pier.
