Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

By Mike Caton

Exodus 33:16, “How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”

What is it that sets God’s people apart from all the other people on the earth? Do God’s people look any different? No, we know that God has people of every race, nationality, people group and so forth. Do God’s people act any different? Well, they should, but don’t we all know godless men and women who do very good things; give money, do humanitarian acts, support the downtrodden people, and so forth. Do God’s people use a different language? Again, no there is no “Christian language” but some folks do like to use a lot of fancy words to try and set themselves apart. So, what is it that makes God people different?

We have the presence of God in our lives. And God’s presence in our lives will make us look, act, talk and so forth differently. But those differences are the result of having the Lord in our lives. The key to this is having the Lord’s presence. Today, when we become Christians, we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, God himself comes and lives in our lives. And though we always have free will, and can still make our own choices, God is there in us to guide and direct us. He empowers us. He protects us. This list can go on and on.

But just consider that God’s presence is in our lives. We cannot be like the rest of the world. Those differences ought to be obvious. Because of the power and presence of God in our lives, we are different. And the world needs to see that difference.

Father, thank you for your presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.
