Two Virginia men die in Hyde County after truck becomes submerged in canal

The North Carolina Highway Patrol has reported on the deaths of two Virginia men following a fatal traffic incident in Hyde County.
“On January 17, 2025, at approximastely 2:10 A.M. the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to a double fatal collision involving a single vehicle on State Game Lands in Hyde County. The collision occurred on a path located off Out Fall Canal Rd.,” stated Master Trooper Rico L. Stephens.
According to Stephens, a 2020 Chevrolet truck driven by 38-year-old John Fields, of Bracey, Va., was turning around on a path and backed into a canal, causing the vehicle to overturn onto its roof and become submerged in the water.
Fields and his passenger 39-year-old Timothy Hubert of Bracey, Va. died on scene.
The other passenger, Robert Nunnery, 33, of Grimesland, NC, was able make it out of the vehicle.
