Mid-Atlantic Christian University (MACU) has announced the appointment of Amy Alcocer as the new vice president for institutional advancement. Alcocer “brings a wealth of experience and a strong passion for higher education and community engagement to the role, which has been vacant for several years,” stated the announcement of her appointment. “As MACU continues to navigate significant growth and expansion, her leadership will be crucial in advancing the University’s efforts to increase fundraising, enrollment, and community support.”
Alcocer comes to MACU with a strong background in higher education, having served at Elizabeth City State University, Norfolk State University and College of The Albemarle. She acquired experience in a diverse array of departments and has held multiple roles, including special assistant to the chancellor, interim admissions director, public information officer, assistant to the provost, and executive director of the foundation and development. In addition to her work in higher education, Alcocer has experience in other sectors, including insurance and nonprofit organizations. Her broad expertise in both higher education and community engagement uniquely qualifies her to lead the university’s institutional advancement efforts, noted the announcement.
“I am excited to join the dedicated team at Mid-Atlantic Christian University during this pivotal time,” said Alcocer. “Our community is fortunate to have a higher education institution that serves not only students but also provides resources and opportunities for the entire region. I look forward to working with faculty, staff, alumni, and community leaders to ensure the long-term success of the University. Most of all, I am committed to our students. I want to contribute to their academic excellence through service, faith, and opportunities that align with MACU’s mission to equip students to be extraordinary Christian leaders.”
Mid-Atlantic Christian University has undergone significant transformations over the past five years, including the introduction of new sports programs and the completion of two major facilities: a state-of-the-art cafeteria and a modern classroom building. The announcement stated that the university is focused on strengthening its financial foundation to ensure sustainable growth, support student success, and expand academic offerings. “With a proven track record in fundraising and community outreach, Amy Alcocer is well-positioned to lead these efforts,” stated the announcement.
“Amy’s extensive background in higher education, fundraising, and community service makes her the ideal candidate to advance our mission at this critical time,” said John Maurice, president of Mid-Atlantic Christian University. “We are confident that she will bring the energy, vision, and expertise needed to elevate our development initiatives and position the University for even greater success.”
In addition to her work in higher education, Alcocer has been deeply committed to serving the region through volunteerism. She has worked with organizations including the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Albemarle, the Food Bank of the Albemarle, the Elizabeth City Pasquotank County Economic Development Commission, the Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Currituck Chamber of Commerce. She was also an active member of the Elizabeth City Morning Rotary Group for many years.
As vice president for institutional advancement, Alcocer will play a key role in enhancing MACU’s development programs, securing vital funding, increasing enrollment and strengthening relationships with alumni, donors and community partners.
