Winterville, NC – Joanne Guard Caroon, a devoted homemaker and loving family member, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, at Barclay House of Tarboro, NC. She was born on October 19, 1946, in Poplar Branch, NC, and was 78 years old at the time of her passing.

Joanne was the beloved daughter of the late John Etheridge Guard, Jr. and Dorothy Cook Guard Tomlin. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, William Thomas Caroon, and her brother, Jeff Guard Sr.

Joanne is survived by her cherished sons, Steven Caroon and his wife Chelsey of Odenton, MD, and Joshua Caroon and his wife Shelby of Winterville, NC. Joanne also leaves behind her sister, Janice Bray, and her husband Frank of Maple, NC; brothers, John Guard III, and his wife Loretta of Edenton, NC, Jack Guard and his wife Denise of Southern Shores, NC, and James Guard and his wife Elanie of Aydlett, NC; and her step-granddaughter, Lexi.

Joanne’s life was one of dedication to her family and home. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Twiford Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. F. Joe Griffith officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Guard Family Cemetery in Aydlett, NC.
