NC Aquariums offer half-off tickets on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Visitors commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. Day with the North Carolina Aquariums will receive half-off regular admission on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025.

“Joining with the nation, the Aquariums honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Through this half-off admission, visitors will enjoy the immersive experience of the Aquariums – gazing at amazing creatures, while engaging with staff who are passionate about their conservation. King’s advocacy work for equality extended to the natural environment,” stated a news release from N.C. Aquariums.

“Reflecting on the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and his fight for racial equality is an important way to keep his dream alive. Dr. King’s work to raise awareness extended to inspiring action on preserving a clean and healthy environment for generations to come. We are honored to welcome guests at a discounted rate on the birthday of this civil rights hero. Please reserve your tickets and enjoy the day,” said Hap Fatzinger, director, North Carolina Aquariums.

The aquariums are popular during holidays and reservations fill up quickly, noted the release. Visitors must purchase their discounted tickets online in advance of their visit.

A special habitat at the N.C. Aquarium on Roanoke Island, the Sea Turtle Assistance and Rehabilitation (STAR) Center is rehabilitating cold-stunned sea turtles. Sneak a peek at the patients through the glass doors and then marvel at the 285,000-gallon Graveyard of the Atlantic exhibit and shark habitat. Visitors are invited to wander through the Wild Wetlands to meet river otters, alligators and turtles, and swing by Sea Senses for a sensory experience with stingrays and invertebrates.

At the Aquarium at Fort Fisher, special habitats that will delight visitors include the lively Asian small-clawed otter families who will greet visitors as soon as they walk in the front door, Luna the albino alligator, a 235,000-gallon shark habitat, and the loggerhead sea turtle hatchlings, Maris and Atlas.

At the Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, be inspired by North Carolina’s 306,000-gallon ocean habitat, the Living Shipwreck, and enjoy Imagination Bay, an immersive indoor play area for the littlest guests. Visit screech owls and Orinoco crocodiles, and don’t forget to say hello to three North American river otters Eno, Pee Dee and Rocky.
