Crabs, shellfish, crayfish and “just plain fish-fish” make up the majority of the North American river otter’s diet, notes USFWS. Otters, like this one seen at Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, are active, speedy swimmers and can lope across dry ground at speeds up to 15 miles per hour.
