Fire crews responded to a boat fire at Pirate’s Cove Marina on Friday afternoon.
The call reporting the fire came in at 3:02 p.m. on January 3. It was reported to be near slip 200, behind the 5000 building. Photos from the scene show the vessel is the Fin Chaser of Nags Head.
Video from Brooke Polk, a Virginia resident visiting the area, shows the boat fully engulfed by the blaze and thick smoke rolling into the air. Polk was inside the marina’s gift shop when she happened to see the fire and capture the video shown here:
According to Fire Chief Bill Walker of the Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department, crews from RIVFD and Nags Head responded to the scene. Walker also noted that the Dare County fire marshal will determine the cause of the fire.
