Beaufort County Community College (Beaufort CCC) has nominated three outstanding students for the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa New Century Pathway Awards.
Gabriella Collins and Kimberly Ramirez-Mendoza were nominated for the New Century Transfer Pathway Awards, while Tongia Holley was nominated for the New Century Workforce Pathway Award.
These awards recognize high-achieving students in each state. The student with the highest All-USA Academic Team application score in their state is named either a New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar or a New Century Workforce Pathway Scholar. Workforce Pathway Scholars are recognized for their intention to enter the workforce after completing their two-year credential and are honored at the Association of Community College Trustees Annual Leadership Congress. The New Century Pathway Scholarship program is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation, The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, the Association of Community College Trustees, and Phi Theta Kappa. To qualify, students must apply for the All-USA Academic Team and be nominated by their college. All nominees receive a $250 scholarship.
Collins is a criminal justice technology student with plans to transfer to East Carolina University. She aspires to become a forensic science technician, helping to resolve unsolved investigations and give back to her community.
Ramirez-Mendoza is a dual-enrolled student at Beaufort County Early College High School. She will earn her high school diploma, an associate in arts, and a community Spanish interpreter certificate. She plans to transfer to East Carolina University to study speech and hearing sciences, aiming for a career in speech pathology.
Holley is pursuing an early childhood education degree and plans to become a dedicated and intentional teacher in Washington, N.C. She also intends to further her education at Beaufort CCC.
“These nominations reflect the hard work and aspirations of these students as they prepare to make significant contributions to their fields and communities,” noted the announcement of the awards.
