Chicamacomico Banks firefighters, water rescue team members awarded

The Chicamacomico Banks Fire and Rescue Department provides a full range of emergency services from the Oregon Inlet bridge to halfway to Avon, including the villages of Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo.
The department runs a water rescue squad that patrols the villages’ beaches from late spring through fall.
On Saturday night, Dec. 14, 2024, the department held its annual dinner and presented awards and certificates for training hours. Earning special 2024 recognition and congratulations are:
Firefighter of the Year: Garrett Porter
Fire Rookie of the Year: Nik Louvros
Lifetime Achievement: Gene Stoel
Community Service Award: Sabrina Hatfield
Chief’s Award: Elaine Hooper
Water Rescuer of the Year: Hayden Ray
Water Rescue Rookie: Noah Cullen
Water Rescue Captain Award: Garrett Porter
Completing 36 hours of firefighter training required to maintain the department’s rating are the following 20 firefighters:
Chicamacomico Banks Fire Chief Mike Daugherty, Jessie Kilgour, Mud Bailey, Hank West, Jewels Patterson, Ben Abe, Garrett Porter, Chloe Givens, Gene Stoel, Elaine Hooper,
Esben Boxer, Clyde Thompson, Tim Fitch, Aaron Rountree, Nik Louvros, Anna Grelecka, David Smith, Daymon Stump, Kristin Weigle and Ansley Thompson.
Additional department members are Matt Bayley, Mike Bryant, Casey Midgett, John Rudis, Geoff Yates and Amberly Dyer.
The Chicamacomico Banks Water Rescue Team has 18 members, who are Ben Abe, Craig Dietsch, Cory Cartier, Noah Cullen, Justin Keeley, Jacob Lynch, Josh Lynn, Owen Marish, Casey Midgett, Garrett Porter, Tim Rhodes, Conner Roberts, Tyler Roberts, Crew Smith, Isaiah Arnold, Chris Cowan, John Dalkowski, Hayden Ray and Sawyer Rowe.
The dinner with the awards ceremony was held at the Salvo Fire Hall. BoardWok South in Waves catered the event.
